VMware ESXi 5.5 hangs on ACPI initialization on DQ67OW

Hi,

I'm using a DQ670W motherboard as a VMWare ESXi whitebox for my personal use. It works great with ESXi up to 5.1U1.

ESXi 5.5 has been released but it hangs on ACPI initialization on startup or install. Searching on google, other brands of motherboards are facing the same problem, they released a new BIOS update to make ESXi 5.5 work even if their motherboard are not officially supported by VMware.
Is Intel aware of this problem ? Will a BIOS update be released ?

I can provide technical information for investigation.

Hi,

My D525MW COMM port works properly with windows xp but when I install windows 7 on this motherboard, the COMM port doesn't work at all. Even if I add the second serial port, it also doesn't work. I have test on 2 different motherboard and see this problem on both of them.

Does any one has the same problem? Any idea?

Breaking RAID1 - Looking for specific instructions

$

Greetings,

I've been all over the boards for the past couple of nights, looking for specific instructions & steps to take to break a RAID1. But there's so many different postings that it's hard to figure out the correct procedure. I'll specify what I have & need below. I'd really appreciate if specific instructions & steps could be provided, plus any additional info that you'd find helpful. A definitive 'How To' would be great or even a sticky.

System: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Motherboard: Intel DP55KG

Hard Drives: Two identical WD RE3 750 GB SATA Hard Drives (WD7502ABYS)

RAID Config: RAID1 on SATA II, using the RAID controller built into this motherboard

RAID Software: Intel IRST v. 9.5.0.1037

RAID option ROM version:  10.6.0.1091

Notes: I've never had any problems with the RAID, no errors, no rebuilds, no problems at all over the past 4 years.

I want to break this RAID1, without losing any data on the drives, and use the two hard drives independently as normal drives from now on. I'm aware that I have to go into the Option ROM via the 'Control-I' procedure to access the RAID controller and this is where I get fuzzy after all my readings here.

IMPORTANT: My O/S, applications, and data are on the drives and I want to KEEP them intact. I do not want to lose any data and I do not want to format the drives. I simply want to break the RAID1 and then continue using one of the drives as my main drive in a non-RAID...just like a normal computer setup. (At a later date, I'll format the second drive to use for something else).

QUESTIONS:

  1. After entering the Option ROM, when in the Main Menu, do I first choose the option "Reset Disks to Non-RAID"?
  2. After this, and following prompts to complete the procedure, then what is the next thing to do?
  3. I'm curious if I ever go back and choose the option to "Delete RAID Volume". Since the RAID is broken, it seems logical to delete the volume, but how does this affect the data on the drives once I've "Reset Disks to Non-RAID"?
  4. In the BIOS, I'll leave the hard drive config set to RAID because I've read this is the most flexible way to leave things for future options?
  5. Do I disconnect, reconnect, or what with any of the drives during this procedure?

See what I mean...it's all these unknowns and questions that are hanging me up. I just can't find any solid documentation or step-by-step procedure on how to undo my RAID1 while preserving the contents of both drives. Any detailed help would be greatly appreciated.

If I can provide any other info, please let me know.

Thank you.

Upgraded to Windows 8.1, now SecureBoot has excluded access to the BIOS

I've got a pc with an Intel mother board DH87RL, AA number AAG74240-401, BIOS Version Intel Corp. RLH8710H.86A.0320.2013.0606.1802, and an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz processor. Using the Intel® System Identification Utility, I got the report reference ID 0225 3409 I upgraded my machine to Windows 8.1 and after that I was told that SecureBoot wasn't configured correctly. So I restarted, waited for the Intel logo, hit F2, and changed my SecureBoot settings.  I changed it from off to on, I believe.  I saved and restarted.  Now, everytime I restart first I hear 4 loud beeping sounds and I do not see the Intel logo, the first thing I see is the Windows desktop.  It's as if the Intel splash screen is not displaying correctly.  When I hit F2 repeatedly on boot I'm guessing it goes to the BIOS, because in this case it does not boot to Windows, but it also does not show me the BIOS screen. So, in summary, after I turned on SecureBoot in the BIOS, I can not see the Intel splash screen on boot, nor can I see the BIOS screen if I hit F2. Changing the jumpers on the mother board (as was suggested earlier in a similar discussion) didn't help. The BIOS is still not accessable ever since I've activated Secure Boot,  after installing MS Windows 8.1. Any suggestions?

Hi guys,

I've never really used the Grey Marvell SATA ports, but now I wanted to add another HDD and decided to and cannot for the life of me get them to work. Is there anything I need to do?

I have secondary SATA enabled in BIOS. And when I go to BIOS to see my sata ports, it only shows my Intel SSD connected to SATA 0 and doesn't show any of my connected drives.  It also does not show my grey SATA ports in BIOS?  Only shows SATA 0-5

Blue SATA 0: Intel 520 240gb SSD

Blue SATA 1: Seagate 1.5tb Barracuda HDD

Black SATA 2: 500gb Seagate Barracuda HDD

Black SATA 3: 1.5TB Seagate Barracuda HDD

Black SATA 4: DVD Burner

Black SATA 5: Bluray Drive

Grey SATA 6: 3TB Seagate Barracuda HDD

Grey SATA 7: Empty

I'm using:

OS: Windows 8.1  Pro 64bit

Motherboard: Intel DZ77GA-70K

BIOS Version: 0066

BIOS Mode: UEFI

Any help would be much appreciated as I want to get my new 3TB HDD working. Thanks

Help needed.

I inserted a dvd into dvd-rom but it wont play. I have tried different other dvds and the work on my laptop but not on my dell desktop.

I kept getting the error message: please insert disc into drive d.

There is a yellow exclamation mark on for dvd-rom in device manager and that makes me thing its a driver issue.

I have tried to download driver form dell support, got similar message, disc drive not found. Please advise.

Hello,

I have a problem with my DH87MC, when I try to access the BIOS through F2 it freezes and I have to restart the computer.

I can access both F7 and F10 functionalities.

I already tried to upgrade the BIOS, downgrade de BIOS, reset the motherboard clock, tried to use another keyboard to see if the problem was with the keyboard, but nothing worked.

Can you guys please help me?

After BIOS upgrade the SPDIF is not working, DQ77KB

Hello,

after I did a BIOS upgrade on a new board DQ77KB I noticed that the SPDIF via the 3.5mm jack is not working any more.

I've found a similar discussion the it only works with BIOS 0048 so if Intel reply on that it would  be great as I don't want to downgrade the BIOS and need the S/PDIF to work.

Hello all,

All my devices freezes if they are pluggud in a USB 3.0 port.

I've tried everything, spend nights for it, update drivers (now using 2.1.32.0), firmware updates, BIOS updates; but all in vain!

Specs:

  • Windows 7 Ultimate x64
  • Intel DH67CF
  • Intel Core i3 2120T
  • 4 GB Kingston memory
  • OCZ Vertex 2 Solid state disk

What to do now? I'm very disappointed, spend a lot of time without effect.

I will return my motherboard and never buy an Intel motherboard again I've there is no solution available for this BIG problem.

I'm looking forward to a response from Intel.

DQ77MK: USB and network failures under Win7, unable to flash BIOS

$
0
0

System specifications:

  • Windows 7 SP1 Professional x64
  • Intel DQ77MK motherboard
  • Intel Core i5-3570 processor (not the K model, as I require the virtualisation features) (passes Intel's processor diagnostic tool)
  • 8GB DDR3 1600 (2x4GB) memory (passes memtest86+)
  • Generic Dell keyboard and mouse (both USB 2.0)

First of all, my board's BIOS is dated 11/20/2012. Regarding trying to update it with the latest revision today:

  • The express method (MKQ7710H.86A.0064.EB.EXE) does not work.
    • After running the updater, the system reboots, enters S3 for several seconds, and then proceeds to boot normally (with no change to the BIOS version shown during POST).
    • Upon rebooting back into Windows, the updater claims that the flash was successful. However, the actual BIOS remains unchanged, as reported by both the BIOS itself and Intel Desktop Utilities.
    • No reports of a failed flash are recorded in the BIOS event log whenever I try this method.
  • The recovery method (MK0064.BIO) does not work.
    • After confirming that I want to update, the system reboots, enters S3 for several seconds, and then proceeds to boot normally (with no change to the BIOS version shown during POST).
    • The BIOS remains unchanged, as reported by both the BIOS itself and Intel Desktop Utilities.
    • A failed flash message is appended to the BIOS event log every time I attempt this method.
    • I have tried this method using different types of USB drives and CDs.
  • The Iflash method (MKQ7710H.86A.0064.BI.ZIP) does not work.

Other steps I have taken (had the PC unplugged from mains power and took ESD precautions where applicable):

  • Running the express updater while in safe mode.
  • Removing all add-on cards and external devices except for the keyboard, mouse, and a DVI display.
  • Draining capacitors on the board by holding down the power button on the case for 30 seconds.
  • Removing the CMOS battery, draining the caps as per above, and then inserting it again.
  • Changing the duration that the system stays in S3 during a flash to 20 seconds.

I am uncertain if the problems I keep experiencing in Windows are linked to the outdated BIOS, as in the past I used to only have trouble with just the 82574L adapter once every few months (when it failed - always with Code 43 - I would just switch the ethernet cable over to the 82574LM adapter until the next time I rebooted the system).

After a period of the system being on - almost always between 30 minutes and four hours:

  • Both onboard network adapters (82574L and 82574LM) cease proper functioning:
    • If one of the adapters was in use at the time, it gets a metaphorical boot to the head, with its status in the device manager changed to:
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
    • Any onboard network adapters that were not in use at the time (no ethernet cable connected to it and another device) remain reported as working properly in the device manager.
    • Regardless of their reported status, network connections can no longer be made with either adapter.
    • The system event log starts getting spammed with this message (all from SharedAccess_NAT and with ID 31004):
"The DNS proxy agent was unable to allocate 0 bytes of memory. This may indicate that the system is low on virtual memory, or that the memory manager has encountered an internal error."
  • All USB ports (even ones on add-on cards) stop detecting changes:
    • USB devices that were already attached continue to function properly (e.g. keyboard, mouse, drawing tablet).
    • If a new USB device is inserted or an existing one is unplugged, there is no change in the device manager; removed devices remain visible, and new devices never appear.
    • Scanning for hardware changes causes the "Scanning plug and play compliant hardware" message to appear indefinitely.
  • ACPI functionality seems to break:
    • If I try to shut down or restart the system, Windows hangs at the "Shutting down.."/"Restarting..." message (with the activity indicator still spinning).
    • The physical power and reset buttons on the case no longer act as they should. Per my configuration in Windows, pressing the former should trigger a normal system shutdown. Per the design by the case manufacturer, pressing the latter should immediately cycle system power without a safe shutdown.
    • However, I can still hold the power button for ten seconds to forcefully power everything off.

Any ideas?  I'm more concerned about the inability to update the BIOS at the moment since the other issues could be driver-related.  Sorry for any inconsistencies/typos, I wrote this in a bit of a hurry.

Cheers.

i925XE / ICH6R - Matrix Storage Manager for Windows 7 64bit

$

Hello,

I'm using older Foxconn mainboard with Intel 925XE chipset, ICH6R north bridge. I was using it fine with Windows XP 64bit with RAID1 mirror from 2 disks.

Recently I moved to Windows 7 64bit and I'm unable to find working matrix storage manager for this OS, as well newer driver except the one which is included in OS (iaStorV.sys 8.6.2.1012).
I tried Intel Matrix Storage Manager 8.8.0.1009, then 8.9.0.1023 as well 9.6.0.1014 but all fail with message

"This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software"

Per http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=18859&lang=eng
the page mentions i925 and ICH6R as SUPPORTED but I'm still getting the error above. I also tried to extract only the drive with -a switch and the driver files were also not accepted by OS, inside inf files there is mentioned only ICH7R and above, so no ICH6R. Why then at the download page is mentioned i925/ICH6R are supported in this package...

The version 7.0.0.1020 I was using fine in XP doesn't install in Windows7 as well.

Can you please advice if there is some working storage manager for Windows 7 64bit and the ICH6R chip to have monitored the status of the RAID array, rebuild, etc.?

Thanks,
Eugen

NOTE: Intel Desktop Utility reports RAM-Speed with 1419 MHz but according to the BIOS its running with 1066 MHz.

The RAM-Modules are the Samsung one which Intel lists in his Hardware Compatibility Guide.

I have Windows 7 x64. PSU ist Enermax 800 Watt, graphiccard is a GTS 8600 or a HD 4750 (I changed both to ensure its not a GPU-Issue).

Memtest86+ runs 4 days without problem.

The system randomly freezes once in the week even if the PC does nothing - just running. "Freeze" means that I can't mouse the mouse or press any keys I have to hard-reset the system. Temperature is normal, processor never goes over 63 °C even if doing a 2 simultanous winrars with 10 GB.

I increase the RAm voltage from 1,5 to 1,6 as I read in some postings but this doesn't help.

What can I do to stop the "freezing"?

Greetings

Stefan

DZ77RE-75K -- SATA hot swappable not functioning correctly

The HOTSWAP utility is reporting that SATA ports not checked as hot swappable are marked hot swappable by Windows 7 64 bit.  This utility works OK with three other non-intel motherboards and correctly identifies SATA ports being enabled as hot swappable. Controller mode is AHCI. Bios level 39.  The same issued occurred with bios 0061 on the RMA'd DZ77RE-75k motherboard.

eSATA port does not support hot plugging on DQ77MK

I recently bought a Vantec EZ Swap EX mobile rack enclosure and was trying to set it up but run into a problem that I'm not able to eject a device once it is connected, for some reason the device is not recognized as a hot pluggable and the only option to correctly eject a hard drive is to shutdown the machine. I've tried to connect to an external eSATA port and checked BIOS setting to make sure the port is enabled and marked as hot plaggable. But it still does not work as expected. I did try to connect just a hard drive without the enclosure just to make sure that it is not related to the enclosure. Besides the issue with the eSATA port, non of the internal ports work as hot pluggable as well (regardless of the BIOS settings) and i ideally would want to connect that enclosure to an internal port.

I've seen some fixes related to that for 0048 BIOS, but i'm not sure i want to donwgrade my BIOS to that version. I have two computers based on the DQ77MK board on running Windows 8.1 x64 another running Windows 7 x64 with RST 12.8 and both have the same problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I previously had the C2D E6550 SLA9X processor in a PC running XP Pro SP3 with 4 gb of RAM and the latest 1143 BIOS downloaded from the OEM here.  I found a deal on a Q9550 quad core and thought way not give it a try.

After the new CPU it has problems with hanging up on restarts, but no a a normal power up.  The big thing the case fans are running at 2800 rpms now where in the past they were very silent.  I changed the CPU fan and temp and everything normal and quite.  Any thoughts why?  Thanks.
