DQ87PG - USB boot devices don't show up in F10 boot menue

$

If've configured my BIOS to *not* boot USB devices first. Booting from USB is enabled as well as the F10 boot menue. There are two SSD in my PC and the the first SSD is the boot device (legacy boot).

So far I could insert a bootable USB flash drive and when pressing F10 there was a list with my two SSDs and the flash drive which I could select and boot from.

The only change I've made since is updating the BIOS from 148 to 149.

When pressing F10 now, there are only my two SSD - no USB flash drive shows up.

The only way to boot from an USB flash drive now is to enable to boot USB devices first which isn't desirable nor practical.

It seems that BIOS 149 screwed something up, so please fix it!

At 90 I have a lot of equipment locked into the arena of Windows 2000 and XP and much will not work on Windows 10 and many did not work on Windows 7, so I have dug out an old Intel Desktop-01 motherboard and built a reserve computer. However I cannot find the drivers and software for this board so can anybody help with a CD or know where to find the drivers etc.

Boot MGR

BOOTMGR Missing

I would like to install an operating system, but cannot even
do this!

The computer had windows 7 on it. The SSD (“hard drive”) was
removed and reformatted using another computer.

Now I cannot even load an operating system because after
powering on I just get a message:

“Boot MGR is missing

Press Ctrl Alt Del to restart”

So this is what I have done so far:

  1. Checked all cables
  2. Tried to install windows 10 from a CD
  3. Tried to install windows 7 from a CD
  4. Physically changed the optical (CD/DVD) hardware
  5. Physically changed the SSD “hard drive” to a new SATA
    hard drive
  6. Cleared the CMOS Setting by moving the jumper pins and
    restarting the computer
  7. updated the BIOS (successfully) from a USB.

Each time I start the computer I still get:

Boot Mgr is missing!

Can anyone please help?

PCIe Fax Modem triggers a wake-up from the sleep state

$

Are sleep state troubles likely in 64bit environment apparently incurred by PCI express?  I have set the following card in my desktop PC up.

PCI-Express x1-bus 56k Fax Modem AKBP-56K-PCIE

By booting Windows up, the OS did recognize this card and installed its own driver described below automatically.

Modems: AGERE PCI-SV92EX Soft Modem

Driver Provider: Microsoft

Driver Date: 11/11/2008

Driver Version: 2.2.89.3

Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows

The "Add a New Device" window didn't show through this process.  After installing the card, the PC cannot stay in sleep state longer than 1 second.  Also hibernation can last only 3 seconds.  My PC's resume is:

M/B: Asus H170-Pro

CPU: Core i7 6700 3.4GHz

OS: Windows 10 64bit Home (Version 1511 Build 10586.545)

SSD: Samsung 950 Pro M.2 NVMe

HDD: WD Blue 2TB 5400rpm

TV Tuner: PIX-DT460 PCI Express x1

Keyboard and Mouse: each via PS/2 port

I have reported this issue to Asus but gotten no answer yet.  I updated UEFI BIOS on 19. July 2016.  The seller ECLINK Amazon branch (Japan) told me that the card should support up to Windows 8.  By viewing customer reviews in Amazon Japan's site, I got to know that some are using this card perfectly with the sleep state and others not.  This fact may suggest that there is hardware (chipset?) dependancy.  My present Windows settings are:

Device Manager -> Properties of Modem ->

[ ] (off checked) Allow this device to wake the computer

Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change plan settings

-> Change advanced plan settings

Sleep -> Allow wake timers -> Setting: Disable

PCI Express -> Link State Power Management ->

Setting: Maximum power savings (others didn't help)

 Multimedia settings

When sharing media -> Setting: Allow the computer to sleep

When playing video -> Setting: Optimize power savings

My present M/B settings are:

UEFI BIOS -> Advanced Mode(F7) -> Advanced -> APM Configuration

 ErP Ready Disabled

Restore AC Power Loss Power Off

Power On By PS/2 Keyboard Disabled

Power On By PS/2 Mouse Disabled

 Power On By PCI-E/PCI Disabled

 Power On By Ring Disabled

 Power On By RTC Disabled

I have tried changing the ErP Ready setting to [Enable(S4+S5)] and then [Enable(S5)], each without success. The work of the fax modem itself is quite stable.  I can send faxes any time without failure.  Must I dismiss the fax modem when I insist on sleep state?  Afterwards I tried the attached driver CD and Windows told "Could not find the MODEM device for this driver" or "The best driver software for your device is already installed" after disabling or uninstalling the device.

Looking up chip numbers, I found a site http://modemsite.com/56k/sv92p.asp explaining old drivers.  The site tells that the fax functions is realized by software and developmet of the 64bit version is done in Vista's era i.e. up to 2009.

I got into Event Viewer (Windows Logs -> System) and found a log which tells "Wake Source: Unknown" sourced out from Power-Troubleshooter.  I tried "powercfg -requests" in Command Prompt but all categories told None.  I checked Task Scheduler and found no scheduled task which was enabled to "Wake the computer to run this task".  Exchanging PCIEX1_1 and PCIEX1_2 (fax modem <-> TV tuner card) didn't help.  The folloing is a log from Device Property.

Thunderbolt networking in Windows OS

Intel releases the whitepaper on how to network two PCs or two MACs using Thunderbolt.

It even states the driver: Thunderbolt Software 2.5 one should be using.

I have scoured the internet, even venturing into these historical image websites and found NOTHING.

INTEL, where can I find Thunderbolt Software 2.5?

Thanx.

D915GAG Power Supply specs

$

Does anyone know what the maximum ATX12V version for a power supply is with a D915GAG motherboard?

I have a board that is using what appears to be an ATX12V v1.x supply with 20-pin connector and works fine.

I'm trying to test another power supply which is an ATX12V v2.0 supply with 24-pin connector.  Whilst the onboard LED lights up to indicate power is available, it does not start up.

The only difference I see is that (as per the v2.0 standard) the newer supply is missing the white -5v pin 20, which is present on the other supply.  The board shouldn't need it, since I believe it was for ISA bus which this motherboard doesn't have, but who's to say what the board's requirements are.  The manual has no version specification info.

It is possible the newer supply is faulty but I don't have any other gear to test with right now.  In reality, I want to check if I go out buying a modern store-bought supply, will it work?

Is Adaptec RAID 6805E 2271800-R controller compatible with DZ77GA-70k?

Chipsatz mit 30 min Timer?

$

Hallo,

Troubleshooting Wake on LAN on DZ77GA-70K Windows 7 x64

$

I tried several ways to setup WOL on my DZ77GA-70K Windows 7 x64 system on 82579V LAN interface. The closest solution is to leave on Power Management tab only “Wake on magic packet” checked – other options unchecked. Driver version is 12.10.28.0. (after installation of LAN_Win7_64_PROWin_19.1.exe) From another PC I sent packet with special tool that sent packet with MAC. This cause my computer getting awake from s3 (sleep). But this work only about several minutes after getting sleep. After about 10 minutes computer does not response and stays in Sleep mode (it’s possible to turn it on by pressing keyboard button). I think the problem is something related with DEEP sleep – I think PC turns off some LAN components after several minutes. How to disable this Deep Sleep? Or what is the way to use Wake on LAN on this mainboard?

Windows Update (on Windows 8.1) is trying to install an update for Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 and it keeps failing with error code 80070103. I have tried to contact with Microsoft, they advised to download that driver from Intel, I’ve done it. But it’s failing with the same error code 80070103. I would be grateful, if someone could help? Microsoft said that the error related to Intel product.

DQ67OW - Confirming stepping re: SATA bug

$

HI all,

I've got hold of a DQ67OW board from eBay as part of a modest upgrade project for my home media server. I'd looked at this article regarding the stepping:

Identify Intel® Desktop Boards B2 and B3 Chipset Versions

- as I was aware of the flaws with the early versions of the chipset on the 3GB/s SATA ports. It says the new 'AA' number for this board at that point was G12528-303 and that older numbers than that would be B2 steppings with the flaw on the SATA ports. The board reports itself in the BIOS as being G12528-308 which suggested to me it was newer and would be OK.

However I've just fired up CPU-Z and under the Mainboard tab it lists 'Southbridge: Q67 - Stepping B2'. Heart sank a bit as I will need to use all the ports and I got a 6-port board for that reason. I guess CPU-Z could be mis-detecting things, but can anyone confirm based on the AA numbers which stepping this board is on?

Cheers

Chris

USB Boot DQ67SW Motherboad

I want to know what is required to boot from a USB thumbdrive on the DQ67SW board? I'm pretty sure I've done this before, but it will not work now. The thumb drive is in fact bootable as I've booted it from other PC's just fine. I tried using every USB port but is does not make a difference. I also tried disconnecting all SATA drives to force it to boot from USB, but then I get the error message stating "no bootable device found". Seems that it does not want to boot from USB.

In the BIOS I have USB boot enabled, boot from removable devices enabled and UEFI boot disabled.

Are there some specific, different requirement for the USB boot device?

Thanks.

DX58SO RAM Issue

I have a DX58SO motherboard that I have been running 12G of Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 Mhz in a triple channel configuration. This had been up and running for nearly a year. This weekend, I took the system apart to changed out the cpu cooler. Now that I have reassembled, it refuses to POST with all three RAM modules installed; it gives 3 error beeps at startup which indicates a RAM error. It will POST just fine with two modules installed in the dual channel configuration. I have swapped out modules and all 3 will work in dual channel but it will not POST with any of the 3 in Channel A. As per the user manual, I am populating all 3 BLUE RAM slots for triple channel and the furthest from the CPU 2 BLUE slots for dual channel. Did my Channel A just crap out or is there something I am missing?
