DZ77BH-55K boot failed but everything works fine

Hi,

In a first time, i'm french user and i apologise for my english.

With my motherboard DZ77BH-55K, sometimes, but not always, the boot fail and i have the message : "BIOS has detected unsuccessful POST attempt(s)... Press "Y" to enter Setup or "N" to cancel and attempt to boot with previous settings." And if i press "N", after on OS (seven SP1), the system works fine, no problem. I attached my technical configuration with the Intel utilities.

All of my stuff works fine with another motherboard, it's the same materiel what i plugged on this intel motherboard.

So this message in the BIOS is useless, because my setting in the bios works with no issues, but it's a little bit boring... i don't want start my PC with my fingers crossed for a boot with no issues. I tried lot of setting, turn off some plug and play abilities, manual setting for video card, the last setting what i did is disable "general optimisation" in boot option. I don't know if that works for the moment, i don't shut down my system again.

And another detail, this problem happen only after a night when i shut down my system. My power supply is plug and ready to go.

If i try simple reboot, no problem, and totally shut down then reboot after a short time, no problem.

Thanks for help.

Intel DP55WG, Core i7 860, SSD Samsung 840 Pro 256GB - I'm out of ideas

$

Hi all,

First of all - complete list of all parts of the configuration, I've been fighting with for over four days:

  • Intel DP55WG (BIOS 5936)
  • Core i7 860 (not overclocked) with Scythe Mugen 4 cooling system
  • 16GB of ram based on 4 Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4G modules
  • Samsung 840 Pro, 256 GB SSD drive with the latest version of firmware (DXM05B0Q)
  • HDD controller configured as AHCI or RAID
  • XFX Radeon HD6450
  • the whole configuration of CPU, ram settings is set to it's nominal settings - without any overclocking or increased voltage settings, than I also tried to run memory modules with 1,6V, and Uncore voltage with 1,15V
  • PSU Chieftec CFT-1200G-DF

The truth is, that I have no idea, why this configuration behaves, as it behaves. The steps I've taken.

Step 1

I've tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64: I've partitioned the SSD (100MB System Reserved + 214,9GB for operating system & software + around 23,5GB free, unused space). But very soon everything went wrong - first restart, the "Completing installation" part - and computer freezed. Completely. I've tried to repeat this step couple of times - each and every time with the same result.

Step 2

I've tried to install Windows 8.1 x64. The same result, as in Step 1.

Step 3

I've tried to install Kubuntu 13.10. Everything went fine. I've run 8 copies of CPU-Burn for over 6 hours - without any problems.

Step 4

I've started MemTest86+ 5.01. The results? Over 17 hours working straight without any error (here's the photo).

Step 5

I've connected classic HDD drive and tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64. It was quite a surprise for me, that the installation was successfully completed. I've installed remaining drivers:

  • Intel Chipset Software Utility 9.3.0.1019
  • Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver 10.1.0.1008
  • Intel PRO Network Connections LAN Driver 17.1
  • Realtek ALC Audio Driver 6602
  • AMD Catalyst 13.12

Than I've run some tests - over 4 hours continous work with four copies of Orthos Stress Prime. Like CPU-Burn under Kubuntu - without any problems (here's the photo).

I've stopped Orthos Stress Prime, Windows Update informed, that it has installed 3 updates and I need to restart the computer to complete the installation. OK. During updates install I've received BSOD with message "The system encountered an uncorrectable hardware error" and STOP: 0x00000124 and "Physical memory dump FAILED with status 0xC000009C".

Step 6

I've connected SSD drive again, with HDD drive still connected and I've tried to install Windows on SSD drive and than boot from this device. Well - installation went OK, I've installed drivers, downloaded and installed updates from Windows Update. I thought, that I've solved the problem. But when I've shut the system down, disconnected HDD, and run the computer with SSD drive only, something strage has occured. During displaying Windows logo and "Starting Windows" the power suddenly went off, and than the computer started again. I've noticed CHKDSK screen, and again - motherboard power went off (just like I hit the reset button), and powered on again.

I've turned the power off, once again connected HDD as a secondary drive, and powered everything on. CHKDSK was able to check the SSD drive, and corrected errors. I've checked voltages with Intel Desktop Utilities and received following results:

+12 Volts = 12,375V

+5 Volts = 5,211 V

+3,3 Volts = 3,300 V

Core Temp shows temperatures around 28-38°C in iddle state.

I've powered the system off, disconnected the HDD drive, powered the system on again, installed and started OCCT4.4.0 with 64-bits test version and test mode with "Large Data Set". After 8 seconds I've received: Core #0 over maximum value! Value reached: 343, Max Value: 85. The same result I've achieved with CPU: Linpack test - the only thing that changes is the maximum value reached by Core #0.

Than I've installed 3D Mark. I was able to run all tests: Ice Storm, Cloud Gate and Fire Strike (including watching demos) without any problems.

Conclusion?

I've stuck and I'm really confused. I've never experienced such problems. If something was wrong with either motherboard, or CPU or memory modules or hard drives, I was able to find the problem quite fast. Right now - like I said in the beginning - it's been four days since I've started fighting with this configuration.

Guys - what's wrong with this configuration and how can I resolve my problems? I use my PC mostly working with Adobe CS6 and I cannot afford myself to have an unstable, unreliable configuration. The final configuration would be:

  • XFX Radeon HD7850
  • Adaptec AR1430 RAID controller installed into PCI-Express x4
  • 3 HDD drives in RAID5 configuration (I haven't finally decided if I use onboard RAID controller or Adaptec AR1430 RAID controller to create this RAID5 volume. I'd have to test it's performance first)
  • 1 or 2 2,5" HDD drives in removable encolusres (mounted in 3,5" bay, connected to SATA interface)
  • 2 DVD-RW SATA drives
  • Creative X-Fi Extreme Gamer
  • 700W OCZ PSU with 80+ certificate

But right now I don't, what causes my problems. Any ideas?

Desktop Board DH87RL (-400): BIOS reset not working after activating UEFI / no bootable devices detected

$
0
0

I have had no luck yet in getting this solved, any ideas would be highly appreciated:

My current symptoms after changing BIOS settings from "Legacy boot" to "UEFI boot" (nothing else was changed!):

1) System (WITH graphics card installed) is booting right into black screen saying "A bootable device has not been detected. Please refer to the Product Guide at  [Intel URL]"

2) System (WITHOUT graphics card) is freezing with 2 beeps + 2 beeps ("no graphics options available")

And to complicate things somewhat:

- the BIOS is not accessible at all in any of the two cases (via F2 or any other F-key)

- BIOS reset (battery out for an hour) and BIOS recovery (with latest 320) do not change the situation

Any idea how I could access the BIOS in this situation and return to "legacy boot" again?

Here is some more background:

- I built a brand new system one week ago with these components:

Desktop Board: DH87RL, board revision is -400 (first version, the latest version now being -403)

Intel processor: i5-4570 with Scythe Muygen 4 cooler

Samsung SSD 840 Evo Basic (250 GB)

  LiteOn DVD writer iHAS524

  Power supply: Enermax ETL300AWT

  Casing: Corsaire Carbide 200

  Screen: Fujitsu 17" via DVI

  Wireless USB mouse + keyboard

Initially run with integrated graphics Intel 4600, then upgraded to PCIe graphics card (XFX AMD 7790 1GB)

(This system was a recommended configuration in a PC magazine recently - and it is extremely silent and power saving, yet quite powerful when you need it, so making perfect use of the new Haswell processors)

- After building the system I updated the BIOS to 320 and adjusted some BIOS settings: fans + CPU low power mode

- I installed Windows 7 Professional successfully

So the integrated graphics worked fine, benchmarks where according to the magazine which had recommended this PC configuration (c't magazin Germany).

- After 5 days (daily operating time about 4 hours) I installed a graphics card (XFX AMD 7790 1GB) into the PCIe x16 slot

- To avoid collision of internal and external graphics I changed the BIOS setting:

  Internal graphics -> "always disable"

- I then saved BIOS settings and installed the latest AMD graphics drivers in Win 7

- Everything worked fine, benchmark results were as expected

Then I had a very stupid idea which caused the current situation ("never change a running system" - I know...):

- Just for curiosity I went into the BIOS and looked for settings to further improve system performance

- I had heard a lot about the new UEFI mode, so I activated "UEFI boot" (hoping system start would be faster - ok, now I learned that more changes are needed for UEFI to work)

- To make things worse I deactivated "Allow legacy boot"

I saved the new BIOS settings ("UEFI = on" and "Legacy boot = off") and rebooted.

Then for the first time a black screen appeared with the text stated above ("No bootable device detected...").

And no BIOS splash screen beforehand and no reaction to any key (F2 or anything else).

The system just stayed there with the black screen - all fans and lights on, but no more.

I was not worried at that time since I thought that a BIOS reset would easily bring me back to start.

But I got more and more worried while I tried everything I could imagine but nothing improved the situation:

- I tried a basic BIOS reset: removed BIOS battery and waited for an hour (still the same black screen)

- I removed the BIOS recovery jumper and loaded version 320 again via USB stick (recovery worked but still the black screen)

- I removed the graphics card and tried another BIOS reset: interestingly "two times two beeps" stated "system is missing graphics"

So BIOS reset obviously had not worked - the system still searched for a graphics card, and did not use the internal graphics!

- I re-installed the graphics card again: the beeps disappeared and the black screen appeared again

- I offered a bootable DVD - no boot, still the black screen

- I offered a bootable USB stick - no boot, still the black screen

- I removed all SATA devices (SSD, DVD) - no change

- I left battery and graphics card and power away over night (~8 hours) - and no change still !

Of course I tried BIOS recovery every time upon any change via USB stick.

The recovery always concluded "Successful, shut-down power, re-install the recovery jumper and power on again for full system reset".

So I re-installed the jumper, powered on and still the same black screen "no bootable devices detected".

So the current status is as stated in the two lines at the top:

1) WITH graphics card I get to the black screen ("no bootable devices detected")

No key seems to work - not F2 or any other F-key regardless when pressed during system start.

So I can not enter the BIOS in any way (the USB keyboard works fine though during BIOS recovery and also if used with another computer!)

2) WITHOUT graphics card the system beeps twice ("no graphics installed")

So the BIOS seems to remember that internal graphics had been deactivated - but why is it still remembering after several BIOS resets and recoveries?

It also does not matter, where I connect the DVI cable to:

- the screen will always show the black screen only when I attach the DVI cable to the first port of the graphics card (so integrated port does not work)

- only when I activate BIOS recovery (via jumper) I can connect to the integrated graphics port and it nicely shows the recovery progress

So this is really frustrating:

BIOS reset: seems not to make any difference (so no reset seems to happen), not even after removing the battery for several hours

BIOS recovery: successfully passes, but does not change anything as well (specifically resulting not in a reset, since the system is still searching for a graphics card)

What else can I try to return to "legacy boot"?

Certainly the only issue is the change to UEFI boot (perhaps together with the setting "internal graphics = always disable") and now the BIOS is not letting me in anymore...

I am using integrated video on board, question about Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT). BIOS version is last 0071. How can I set 256 MB of video memory for integrated video card? I set "maximum  DVMT" in BIOS and amount of memory is only 224 MB. System has 3GB (1x2GB and 1x1GB) RAM DDR2 667MHz.

DZ68BC error code E6 ?

$

This morning during a normal initial boot i received an E6 error code displayed on the DZ68BC motherboard.  I do have ATT-Uverse internet service and i noticed on the ATT modem the ethernet led emitter light that normally blinks was not blinking and simply OFF.  Not knowing if this could be the culprit i decided to disconnect all the desktop input peripheal cables and took the rig out for a thorough dust cleaning and re-seating of the video card, ram, and all other power supply and HD connections. Afterwards during the following boot the OS detected the normal detection of either a hardware or software change and i simply selected to perform a normal start-up.  The Att -Uverse modem ethernet led emitter was now blinking normally and  the computer started up just fine and everything appears to be normal with no codes displayed on the DZ68BC other then 00.

So my question is could the ethernet service being interrupted by ATT been the cause for the E6 error code or just reseating all the boards and internal desktop connections resolved the E6 error code issue ?

What does the E6 error code actually depict on the DZ68BC motherboard since it is not shown in the error code summary list provided by Intel that comes with this DZ68BC MB.

I built this rig below a few years ago and this is the first problem i have encountered thus far. I am still running the original Bios 021 that came with the DZ68BC and know NOT to perform any Bios update past the 028 version or the board will be totally useless. So running the existing 021 bios is not the culprit since it has run fine for 2 yrs.

The Intel mainboard DH87RL do not detect the television card TechnoTrend S2-4100. This means neither the Bios nor lspci see this card, which has a PCIE 1.0 one lane interface. The Bios version of the mainboard is 0320 (release date 2013-06-06).

On a compatible mainboard, lspci -v displays following information about the television card:

D975BX2 XP Pro SP3: Downloaded and installed latest 975 chipset INF. Before I did this Intel Desktop Utilities were working fine.  After I installed the new chipset INF Desktop Utilities stopped working: Now  I get only a strange distorted version of the menu.  Uninstalled and reinstalled -- same problem.  Then I attempted to install Intel Desktop Control Center -- correct version for my board and OS.  First my antivirus software (Kaspersky Pure) attempted to block some of the DCC drivers as possible malware.  After I unblocked these the installation  hung for a long time, then I finally got an error message telling me that the installation has failed.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Desktop Control Center -- same problem.  So now I have neither Desktop Utilities for the Desktop Control Center.  Any advice?  Thanks!

Why is there no HDMI video displayed when booting DH87MC?

System consists of: i5-4670, SSD series 530 systems disc, G.Skill memory F3-12800 CL9D-8GBXL, Seasonic X-650, Centrino Advanced=N6205 wireless adaptor, Visual Bios in Legacy mode and WIN7 HE.

On first boot into setup with a newly built system using HDMI, power light comes on, all fans spin, Intel Inside tone plays but no video display on ASUS VE 228H monitor with Mediabridge Ultra cable. Tried with ASUS VS 238H monitor and different Mediabridge Ultra cable and got the same result. After a number of unsuccessful attempts, I returned the board for a replacement.

The first boot into setup with the replacement board was a repeat of what was experienced with the old board. Being a little smarter, the next attempt to boot was with DVI. Video worked perfectly. O/S and all updates loaded, all Intel drivers and BIOS updates through 054 loaded. Now, with updated system, when I boot with HDMI cable there is no video until WIN7 starts.

I would appreciate any feedback that helps me correct this issue. Peter

DH67BL upgrade BIOS to v160 and now gives checksum error

I just updated my DH67BL's BIOS from (I think) v146 to the latest which appears to be v160.  I updated the BIOS using the F7 method.

After upgrade, at each boot I get a now checksum warning error - which I didn't get before.  Apart from this warning nothing else seems amiss (after only a few minutes of use).

I have tried downloading the BIO file again and redoing the upgrade, but it doesn't change anything.  I tried clearing the event log in F2 setup.  But it keeps reappearing.

I cannot find any other indication here that anyone else has seen this as a problem.

The only change I have noticed with this release is that it respects the settings I made for a primary monitor (the previous version assumed it knew which one the primary monitor was).

Where do I go from here to fix the issue?

Do I need to fix the issue?

D2500CC wake on LAN problem.

Hi,

I try to setup wake on LAN on D2500CC  board, but without any success.

After switching off the computer the Link/Activity and Link Speed LEDs switch off, next the Link/Activity LED switch on and after one, two seconds switch off.

At a time when Link/Activity LED is on I can wake up the computer sending to it the wake up package.

I tested PS/2 wake up too.  It also work for only a few seconds after the computer is turned off.

Also the RTC alarm event not wake up the computer.

I checked a voltage on +5Vstby power supply  pin and it is correct.

The +5V Standby Power Indicator LED is always on.

I tested two D2500CC boards and two different ATX power supplies. I updated the BIOS to the latest version.

Both boards are from the 2013.

Best regards,

Andrzej.

Maximum number of monitors?

Hi all,

I am in the process of building a new PC with an i7-4770K (HD Graphics 4600) and an Intel DH87MC motherboard.  I was hoping to attach four or five monitors to it - one via the onboard DVI connector, one via onboard HDMI, and three using a Club3D DisplayPort MST hub, connecting to the single onboard DisplayPort connector.

However I was just reading a review of the MST hub which said that Haswell notebooks disable the built-in panel when using the hub, as these processors apparently only support a maximum of three displays.

I can't find any other information about the maximum number of displays supported by the Haswell architecture, so I'm wondering whether anyone here knows whether this claim is true?  I hope not, because I was really hoping to be able to use more than three screens!  Adding another video card isn't really an option for me because Intel don't make discrete video cards any more, and the whole point of this upgrade was so I could use open-source Linux drivers.

Does anyone know whether there is a limit on the number of displays supported by HD Graphics?

DQ67OW Class B, Bios 51, Random Immediate Shutdowns or Video Corruption

Hi Folks,

Been encountering a very strange issue of late. We been using Intel DQ67OW Boards for the last few months pretty much without issue until our latest batch where we are now seeing the machines Randomly Restart without Bluescreens and the only error in the Event Log is a Kernel power error telling us that the machine restarted unexpectedly.

The only promenant change I can see is the BIOS Version which on our new batch of machines came in with BIOS 51. I have since upgraded and tested BIOS Version 52 with no change.

I am unable to force the issue to occur it just decides to restart without any sort of provocation.

Have any of you seen this happen before?? If so could you let me know if you have come across a workaround or a solution.

Cheers,

TQ

DQ77KB vt-d question

Hi,

I have just received a new mini pc with a DQ77KB and an i3-2120t cpu. When selecting the board I checked that it is on the VT-d list. In the BIOS I however find no switch to activate VT-d. Only Intel Virtualization Technology (should be just VT-x AFAIK) can be configured.

I have made sure that the latest BIOS version from 06 Dec 2013 is installed.

What am I doing wrong?

Many thanks in advance,

DH87MC cold boot issue

We have an Intel DH87MC based system that fails to POST if the power is disconnected from the mainboard for any reason.  While power is continuously connected, the system starts, restarts etc. normally.  If the power is disconnected, when you reconnect the power and press the 'power' button, the system fan starts and continues to run, the hard drive makes noise for about 2 secs, but there is no POST and no display.  If you momentarily disconnect the power again and reconnect (or hold the power button for 5 secs to cut power to the mainboard) the system then starts again and there is a screen advising that the BIOS failed to POST on previous attempt.  We 'cancel' to continue and the system boots into Windows just fine.  We had this problem with the BIOS that came preloaded on the board and updated to the latest (version 47) as suggested by Intel Australia channel support, but we still have the problem.  We've also tried different speed RAM, with and without PCI graphics card, new BIOS battery etc.  We just can't deliver a computer to a customer and tell them that they have to perform certain tricks to get it going if it ever loses power to the mainboard.  And seeing as the customer has to take it home to his home and set it up on his desk, then he will certainly have to perform those tricks the first time he tries to start it.  I'm hoping somebody has an answer because we won't get paid until the customer gets his working computer.DH87

Can’t access the BIOS with the NUC Kit D54250WYK- Black_Screen

Hello everyone,

I recently got the Nuc Kit D54250WYK .

The memory sticks are the recommended two 4Gbits DDR3 1333 MHz  and the mSATA 120GB.

I was able to launch Unbuntu 13.10 in EFI mode using the updated WY0024.BIO.

It worked fine the first two days.

Then I decided too  look in the different mode of the EFI and I unchecked the legacy mode.

Of course, the computer didn’t reboot. And I don’t have access to the setup anymore, I don’t see anything

on my computer screen, no logos, no « F2 to … F7 to … F10 to… »

I tried  taking off the configuration jumper, and I was able to reset the configuration and even reflash

the BIOS with the latest BIOS update : WY0024.BIO and proceeded by following the « BIOS Update Readme.pdf »

I saw the line “ the flash updated successfully”. On reboot, the screen still doesn’t show up.

Removing the cmos battery for more than 1 hour did not change anything either.

Do you have any information that could help unbricking the system ?

DZ68BC Ethernet Driver Question

$

I recently upgraded the CPU in my DZ68BC motherboard from a i5-2500K to a an i7-3770. This had plenty of issues but they have been mostly resolved. The two remaining issues are related in operation, though I don't think they have anything to do with each other.

The first issue is that the system will not come out of sleep mode reliably. For short periods, sleep will work properly about half the time. On longer periods, upon waking up, the system will either sit there with no monitor activity, but appear to otherwise be booting up, or it will flash a blue screen with an error message and shut down. The resolution for this is to not use sleep mode and just shut the system down when it is not going to be used for an extended period of time.

The second problem is that on a fresh start up, frequently the ethernet communications do not work. An examination of the device manager shows a ! for the onboard NIC. The solution to this problem is to open the driver panel and disable, then re-enable the driver. This works every time, but it is a bit of a hassle to do each time you start the computer.

I've gone to Intel's support page and confirmed that all of my drivers are up to date. I have re-loaded the file Prowin7.64.18.4 at least twice. I've found a site that has the earlier versions of this driver. My question is: Would dropping back a few revisions on this driver be likely to resolve the problem?
